Lawyers complete Adalah training course on Representing Prisoner and Detainee Victims of Torture
The training course consisted of five meetings over a period of five weeks, and aimed to prepare lawyers and provide them with necessary tools and legal strategies to handle cases of prisoners and detainees, including victims of torture and during emergency situations. The training included lectures on the constitutional aspects of criminal and security cases, representation of detainees in civil and military courts, representation of administrative detainees and juveniles, and how to act during the early hours of arrests and investigations. Other lectures discussed the rights of victims of torture under international law, rehabilitation of victims of torture, mechanisms that allow the use of torture, and illegal investigations by legal, security and medical officers.
