Condolences for Dr. Rawda Bishara Atallah
Condolences
With great sadness, Adalah mourns the death of
Dr. Rawda Bishara Atallah
Dr. Rawda Bishara Atallah, our close friend and colleague, passed away last night, 29 December 2013. Dr. Rawda, the director of the Arab Cultural Association (ACA) in Nazareth, was an outstanding Palestinian civil society leader in Israel during the past 15 years. She was known as a prominent leader, active, energetic, creative, and determined, who worked tirelessly on the development and promotion of Arab culture, identity and education.
Dr. Rawda, together with the ACA, worked with Adalah on many issues in the fields of education and culture. Cases included legal interventions to the Israeli authorities to correct linguistic errors in Arabic language textbooks used in the schools, and to return stolen books from Palestinian libraries in 1948 to their rightful owners. We also worked together to put issues of culture and education concerning Palestinian citizens of Israel on the agenda at international forums and conferences.
We send our sincerest condolences to Dr. Rawda’s husband, Dr. Elias Atallah, and her brothers Dr. Azmi and Dr. Marwan, and her sisters Rawia and Samia.
Her memory will stay with us forever.
