Adalah Attorney Sawsan Zaher Named One of Israel’s Most Promising Young Talents by Marker Magazine’s 40 Under 40 Project and Selected for Prestigious “Women in Public Service Institute” at Wellesley College
Adalah congratulates Adalah Attorney Sawsan Zaher, Director of the Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Unit, for being named today, 4 July 2012, as one of Israel’s most promising young talents by the Marker Magazine’s 40 Under 40 Project. Adalah is also proud of Attorney Zaher for being chosen for and participating in the inaugural Women in Public Service Institute in June 2012 at Wellesley College, one the leading women’s colleges in the United States.
In choosing Attorney Zaher, the Marker Magazine wrote: [It is] "her fighting spirit, total commitment and up-close knowledge of the hardships and distress of the people she represents which will enable her to win many battles in the future."
The Marker emphasized that the winners were selected based on its opinion as to those who will leave a significant mark in their fields. The list includes entrepreneurs and managers, scientists and lawyers, filmmakers, educators, and social activists. Some of the named individuals are well known to the public while others are not or are still behind the scenes.
The Marker notes that “ambition, curiosity, sense of mission and social responsibility motivate” the people selected this year.
The Women in Public Service Institute aims to advance women to positions of influence in governments and civic organizations worldwide. It is part of a global project to get world leadership from 17.5 percent women to “50 percent by 2050.” The Institute is a first-of-its-kind, two-week program to train the next generation of women leaders. Attorney Zaher was one of the 49 delegates attending the Institute from 21 countries in the process of political and social transformation, including countries that are drafting new Constitutions and undergoing major reform. Many of the women who participated in the program live in the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region.
