In honor of the 63rd anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba (Catastrophe), Adalah and Baladna will hold a political and educational seminar entitled, "Nomads Against their Will", to discuss the unrecognized Arab Bedouin villages in the Naqab (Negev).
The seminar will be held on Wednesday, 18th May 2011 at 19:00 at the Al-Meidan Theater in Haifa.
The seminar will address the issues facing the unrecognized villages through the case of the village of Atir–Umm el-Hieran, a living example of the ongoing Nakba of the Palestinian people where the Israeli government is today practicing the policies of uprooting and displacement.
The speakers at the seminar include the deputy mayor of the Rahat Municipality, Mr. ‘Amer Huzayyel, the General Director of the Regional Council for the Unrecognized Villages, Mr. Jazi Abu Kaff, and youth activist Mumtaz Khatib. A short film about the village of Atir–Umm el-Hieran, directed by Eli Rezik and produced for Adalah will also be premiered.
A report containing maps, photography and documentation from the Israeli archives based on a study published by Adalah will also be presented at the seminar. The report, written by Adalah Attorneys Suhad Bishara and Haneen Naamnih, examines Israeli practices in the Naqab, focusing on the example of Atir–Umm el-Hieran and the legal track that Israel has followed to consolidate its policies of uprooting and displacement.
